Round Two, British Championships Glyn Neath Lakes, Wales. June 7th & 8th 2008.
Well as I had no exams on Friday we drove down to Wales on Thursday night so that we could help the JSRA set up. The setting of the lake was absolutely beautiful – with two lakes one of which was huge!
Friday was a busy day – blowing all the buoys up, putting the banners out etc and sadly we spent most of the day very worried about our good friend Garry Speedo Smith who unfortunately had an accident but thankfully he is ok – sore but ok. You scarred me to death Garry – never do that again!
I just have one moto on a Saturday and that is ski GP – All went good for me, I had a good start and came out second behind Simon Gill on his Kawi-doo. It was a big course and up the top end of the course where the technical section was was really rough. I finished the moto in second place so was well happy with that.
Saturday night was a lovely evening – Riva was swimming in the lake for hours with her friends! And we all enjoyed the sunshine, had a natter and played football!
Sunday is a busier day for me with two limited motos and two GP motos. My first Ltd moto was a great one for me – I had a good start, came out first and stayed there the whole race – cool! However when I came in my ski was full of oil and I had blown the head gasket so now dad had to change a few things over quickly so I could go out in GP on my back up boat which he did just in time but I didn’t have time to warm or test the ski at all. Unfortunately she coughed and splutted off the start line and I got a terrible start but luckily for me it was red flagged – most unusual because usually it is red flagged when I get a flying start and come out in front but not this time. Second start wasn’t brill but loads better and I came out third and spent the race chasing Graham but couldn’t get him so I finished third. In my main class Limited I had a great race but was a little disappointed with myself – I came out third from the hole shot and spent the entire race trying to get Kev Pope but he really is so difficult to pass and I just couldn’t get by him anywhere but I enjoyed the race. Well done to Graham Leech who really was onfire this weekend and won the moto and overall on the day. I finished second overall on the day with Kev taking third – thanks for great racing. In my 3rd and final GP moto I came out 3rd again this time behind flying Graham leech and Jason Young on his Kawi-doo – I chased Jason hard but towards the end of the race I took a dive so lost a lot of time so it was then impossible to catch him at all but I finished 3rd and I took 3rd on the day in Ski GP. Well done Jason who took his first ski GP win – but I am sure there will be more to come as Jason and Simon battle on their Kawi-doos throughout the season.
The next round of the British Championship is postponed now so my next racing will be in Europe – but we haven’t got a fixed a plan at the moment we are just going to take things as they come and we aren’t sure yet if we will be able to get back to do the next British round it really is a case of just seeing how the summer works out. My main priority is to continue getting as much race experience as is possible and improving my fitness and as I have my last GCSE exam this week – physics (yippee!!!!) I should be able to concentrate on this while I wait a long ten weeks for my exam results.
Get Well Soon Garry.
