French Championship in VilleFranche, South of France, June 21st and 22nd 2008
Well my Dad has had a very busy week this week repairing both my engines – working till very late at night and this continued when we arrived at the race site in the very beautiful town of VilleFranche when my Dad, Boss and Mitch worked all through the night on Friday rebuilding Mika’s engine. The race site was on the sea and we parked right next to the beach so while the repair work was being carried out Mika and I kept up our training and we went off for a midnight swim in the sea and it was so warm – very different to the English sea!!!
Once signing in, tech and everything was completed Saturday was a chilled out day with just practice and timed trials to do in the afternoon – which was a good job as Dad was shattered and so it gave him some time to rest! The race was also an Endurance event which meant my class was much later in the afternoons than I am used to but it gave us lots of time to chill, have fun and enjoy the venue which was nice.
This weekend I was racing with the GP class – the best riders in both Europe and the World – Dauliach, Botti, Zappata, Poret etc so very tough and a first for me (no log jump though so its ok!). In the timed trials I finished 1st in the ladies and 6th in GP which meant I then had to do a solo time trial which I hate because I don’t like the pressure that everyone is focused on just me – I really don’t like doing them at all but it actually went ok. Mika won with botti 2nd. It was exciting watching as the times got closer and closer. . I finished 5th which meant I got fifth place from the pole position.
I was dreading the start of the GP race - it is my favourite race and so I always watch and I know just how fast these boys all are out of the gate. The class was a big class too so I was ready for it to be rough and tough and fourteen minutes and 1 lap on the sea!
It all went really well though and I finished 6th (I think) in the first moto and 5th in the second moto. I really enjoyed it – don’t think my mum did though!!!
It was a good result again for me this weekend – 1st in ladies and 6th in GP. Well done to all the B7 team who had several podium placings again, special well done to Mika who took 2nd in GP – no mistakes next time though Mika – you promise!!
Thanks again to everyone for making me welcome, to my sponsors and to the French Federation for all their hard work.
Two weeks off racing now, just resting and training! (and waiting for my exam results!!)
My next race is in Croatia. See you soon
